Description
India in the 1920s.
The country is stirring with rebellion against British rule, and so is Surya. An idealistic young man, he dreams of freedom- not just for his country, but from the expectations of his controlling father.
One fleeting moment during a Congress session is all it takes to change his life forever.
Surya's encounter with a breathtaking Lord Krishna Vigraha leaves him feeling an inexplicable connection to it; an emotion he shares with his cousin and unspoken love, Malati.
Though the weight of tradition forces Surya and Malati to take two different paths in life, neither of them can shake off the connection they feel towards the Vigraha.
As the cries for independence grow louder, and Surya throws himself into the freedom movement, Malati enters his life once more, slowly emerging from the shadows.
Surya is left with the ultimate choice: Should he let destiny take its course yet again or should he defy it. And at what cost?
In a time when tradition and progressiveness collide, can Surya and Malati find their way back to each other? Will the Vigraha be the key to all their doubts about the future?
Blending romance, history, mythology and the Indian freedom movement, this fictional narrative explores love, sacrifice and the enduring connect with the divine.

About the author
Subhadra
Subhadra is a writer of historical fiction whose debut novel, Jasmine Trails: Hymns of Heart, Chants of Motherland, brings alive the Godavari districts and Madras City of the 1920s — a time when India’s freedom struggle intertwined with everyday lives, family bonds, and cultural traditions.
Professionally, Subhadra has over two decades of experience in strategic planning, collaborative projects, and business development, with a strong focus on emerging markets. She also devotes time to organisations serving the underprivileged, reflecting her deep belief in community and social impact.
Her journey as an author began during the global pandemic, when she discovered the healing power of writing. What started as short stories soon grew into a full-length novel — born out of her love for history, her roots in South India, and her commitment to give voice to the stories and silences often overlooked.
Today, Subhadra speaks and writes on heritage, storytelling, women’s voices, and the intersections of history and memory. She calls both Chennai and Hyderabad home, and draws constant inspiration from her large and diverse extended family.
