ABOUT THE BOOK

Nathuram Godse may be one of the most reviled names in
independent India but there is much about the man and his life that
remains shrouded under a veil of secrecy. Dhirendra K. Jha's retelling
of the story of Godse's life throws a light on the obscure layers of the
assassin's past. Jha's unparalleled archival investigation, journalistic
rigour and access to previously unpublished material allow him to
unravel the complex childhood experiences that shaped Godse's
personality; his relationship with organizations and individuals who
influenced his world view; and the fateful decisions that eventually led to
Mahatma Gandhi's assassination. More importantly, the book dispels the
portrait painted by Godse in the courtroom and the myths created by
pro-RSS writers to suppress the real life the assassin had lived and the
influences that had led him to murder Gandhi.
