Description

Padma Sri U Shrinivas, a virtuoso Indian mandolin maestro and a composer belonging to the classical Carnatic musical tradition of Southern India, is regarded as the Mozart of classical Indian music and was a child prodigy with a rare combination of knowledge and innovation. Traditonal, but still extremely creative, with his soft enchanting eyes and an ever-smiling face, Sri Shrinivas captivated audiences of all ages. He was one of the few instrumentalists much favoured by all the music lovers and fellow musicians globally, particularly for his popular renditions of 'Ragasudha rasa', Bharati's 'Chinnanchiru kiliye', 'Raghunandana' and 'O Raghava'. Authored by Ms Bhuvana Santhanam, this book, "A Life in Music", captures the musical journey of this child prodigy, who has carved a niche not only for himself, but for the western instrument Mandolin by introducing it into the world of Carnatic music, conceiving a distinct sound and redesigning it.

U Srinivas - a life in music

Great packaging. The book is a hardcover and typically , these don't survive the arduous journey home.

The Odyssey team put a triangular cardboard 'sock' in the corners and these saved the book from getting 'dog eared'.

The photos and story of Shrinivas are fantastic. Tells you a lot of the child and genius.

The accompanying CD is total rubbish. Shame on you Odyssey. Shrinivas' music is hard to get , but an endeavour such as this should have been accompanied by a quality recording. The tracks have been compiled from various sources - their playing levels (loudness) are different and the quality....let's not go there. They sound like MP3 garbage.

Dear Sir, Thank you for the compliment on our packaging. As for the accompanying CD, that was part of the book as given by the publisher. It was not made or given by us. While we respect your views about the CD content, we really are not responsible for it nor can we do anything about it than pass on your feedback to them.
